LEGAL CLINICS

  LEGAL CLINICS

  1. NOAH Emilienne, Widow

‘‘I appreciated everything that was said today because some women get married without knowing beforehand what marriage actually means. What I can say to women is that when they sign for a monogamous marriage with joint property, it means, in one word, the sharing of property between the spouses, which is not always easy to manage.’’

  1. Mrs EBOMO Rosette, Director of Land Tenure/MINDCAF

“The Director of Land Tenure was called upon to make a presentation on behalf of MINDCAF on equal access to land ownership for women and girls. We would say that equal access to land is already enshrined in the laws and regulations in force in our country. These instruments exist both internationally and nationally. So through this activity, namely the legal clinics, as was the case this morning, we aim to raise awareness among women so that they know these rights exist.

So it's up to us, who are aware of these rights, to raise awareness among our sisters, and to popularise the regulations in force. We do this at MINDCAF through numerous activities. We prepare brochures and procedural manuals for the public, including women. We organise legal clinics, like the one that has just ended, and every year we organise a Land Tenure Week during which stakeholders in the land sector get involved.  There are many activities that we organise not only as part of the International Women's Day and the International Day of Rural Women, but also as part of our day-to-day activities. We are not claiming equal rights to land, such equality does exist. We just need to be aware of these rights so that we can better exercise them. This is the message we are sending to women.”

  1. Mrs NGO NONGA, INSPECTOR No. 1 at MINDCAF

‘‘I am truly grateful this afternoon, at the end of this legal clinic dedicated to women’s rights, equality, and empowerment, which aligns with the theme of International Women’s Day 2025. As you heard from the most authoritative voice, the representative of MINPROFF, this is a theme that spans throughout the entire year. As part of this theme, we have planned three conferences. This was the first conference, and as you saw, the room was full. The panellists were very interesting and precise as usual, and there was very active participation from the audience. Many women were enlightened, and I can only be satisfied at the end of this session. I am also looking forward to the upcoming conferences because I hope they will attract a large number of participants, particularly those from outside our Ministry—meaning, we will not just be among the women of MINDCAF.’’

  1. A female participant

“Overall, it was a truly enriching activity, thanks to the diversity of the panel. We were also informed about the origin of International Women's Day, both internationally and nationally. The activity was all the more appreciated and interesting because, personally, as a woman, although I am a member of MINDCAF staff, I was enlightened, along with my colleagues and, of course, my female collaborators, on the management of the widow's heritage, particularly landed property. We would therefore like to express our thanks once again to Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi, Minister for State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure”.
