Cameroon–Ghana Cooperation: Jospong Group unveils an ambitious waste management project in Cameroon

On 17 December 2025, the Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure (MINDCAF), Henri Eyebe Ayissi, granted an audience to the chairperson of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Kumbi-Larbi, who was leading a high-level delegation from Ghana. The meeting was aimed at strengthening the excellent cooperation ties between Cameroon and Ghana.

With more than 30 years of experience, the Jospong Group is a key player in recycling household waste and processing it into useful products for agriculture, healthcare and plastic recovery. The Ghanaian company has expressed its intention to establish operations in Cameroon through a large-scale project expected to create over 1,000 jobs. The initiative includes the construction of a refuse bin manufacturing plant, household waste processing facilities and the training of Cameroonians in modern waste management techniques, including pre-collection, recycling and the production of fertilisers to enrich soils and boost agricultural productivity.

During the audience, the delegation also outlined the Jospong Group's major achievements in West Africa, particularly in the modernisation of urban waste management, the production of agricultural compost and promotion of the circular economy.

This project aligns with several resolutions adopted at the National Forum on household waste management held in Cameroon last September, which brought together several ministries and Regional and Local authorities. It is in line with President Paul Biya’s vision of Cameroon’s emergence by 2035 as well as with the goals set out in the National Development Strategy 2020–2030 (NDS30).

In this regard, MINDCAF reaffirmed its central role in Government’s policy of supporting investment and facilitating secure access to land for both national and foreign investors. The Bikok Council, which has committed to hosting this large-scale project, has already identified a five-hectare plot and is requesting MINDCAF’s assistance to secure additional land, as local residents have voiced their support for the initiative.

Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi expressed his willingness to support the Jospong Group, in close collaboration with other relevant institutions and subject to the approval of the President of the Republic, in order to ensure the successful implementation of this project, which is vital for sustainable development and improved urban sanitation in Cameroon.
