Labour Day 2026: Tangible progress for staff

On the occasion of the 140th International Labour Day in Yaounde on 1st May 2026, the staff of the Ministry of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure (MINDCAF) gathered at the Ongola a Samba Hall for a celebration under the banner of social dialogue, recognition and prospects for improving working conditions. In a festive atmosphere marked by conviviality and the spirit of family, Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi hailed the mobilisation of the staff across all categories, highlighting the cohesion that prevails within the ministry. “This is a special day when the worker is the focus of all attention,” he stated, emphasising the need to strengthen ties between the administration and its staff. Speaking on behalf of workers, the staff representative, Mrs Bougadia Anne Marie, hailed the progress made while advocating for further improvements. She highlighted notably the need for a significant improvement in the working conditions, staff in-service training and the recognition of individual performances. Her speech, delivered in both a respectful and passionate tone, was well received by the minister, who assured that he had taken due note of the concerns raised and pledged to provide appropriate responses. Returning to the theme of this edition: ‘Social dialogue and Decent Work: Factors of Peace, National Cohesion and Economic Development of the Company’, the minister underscored the key role of social dialogue in job stability and inclusive growth. He recalled that these principles are not privileges granted to workers, but key foundations of a productive and peaceful working environment. The Minister reviewed actions undertaken as part of Government programme, notably the improvement of working conditions through equipment procurement, the regular payment of allowances and provision of logistical equipment. Among the outstanding highlights, he mentioned the resumption of the provision of service vehicles to officials, after more than a decade of interruption, as well as prospects for 2026. Henri Eyebe Ayissi also reassured the staff of his determination to pursue efforts to improve their working conditions, in line with the Head of State’s guidelines. Besides the announcements, the Minister urged the staff to show proof of integrity, loyalty and professionalism by embracing the principles set out in the ‘MINDCAF Staff’s Ten Commandments Manifesto’. He insisted on the importance of these values in achieving the objectives assigned to the Ministry and contributing to the emergence of Cameroon by 2035. The ceremony ended in a fraternal atmosphere, reflecting a ministry committed to a process of modernisation and permanent dialogue. Between the acknowledgement of achievements and projection on new challenges, MINDCAF intends to continue its march towards a more effective administration, at the service of national development.
