MINDCAF GRANTS NEARLY 1000 HECTARES TO THE CAMEROON REAL ESTATE CORPORATION (SIC)

This is the total area covered by 68 newly issued land certificates for plots requested by the institution for the benefit of 7,000 buyers who will enjoy full land rights once the subdivision and transfer procedures are completed.

A forty-year wait finally comes to an end on 13 November 2025 in Yaounde. Out of the 12,000 purchasers who have been waiting for their land certificates since 1994, about 7,000 have now secured their land rights. The ceremony to hand over land certificates brought together leading figures from the land sector, representatives of buyers, partners and other experts in the gardens of the Mfoundi residence in the Hippodrome neighbourhood. It was presided over by the Secretary General of the Ministry of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure, Innocent Nicolas Ndilassi, on behalf of Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi.

For this first batch, there is a total of 68 new land certificates covering a cumulative surface area of nearly 1,000 hectares (962 ha 10a 14ca).  Purchasers are based in Douala, Yaounde, Maroua, Nanga-Eboko, Mbankomo, Bafoussam, Bangangte and Garoua. This transfer of ownership by MINDCAF symbolises the securing of land rights for home buyers and the enhancement of SIC’s assets, enabling it to develop its infrastructure projects to meet the demand for social housing.  Solemnly handed over to Dr. Ahmadou Sardaouna (PhD), purchasers will obtain full ownership rights once the subdivision and transfer procedures are initiated.

This expansion of SIC’s land base has been underway since 2019, following the appointment of Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi as head of the ministry. That same year, Dr. Ahmadou Sardaouna (PhD) inherited an institution facing a long-standing structural land crisis stemming from decades of dysfunction. In 2019, SIC’s portfolio was limited to 153 hectares across 35 sites. This represented 80% of its built assets owned by the State or by MAETUR (Urban and Rural Land Development and Equipment Authority).
